My meaningful contribution, as I like to call it, started to reveal itself when I stopped forcing it and paid attention to what moved me.

In the process of writing my book, I realised something quite unexpected about myself.

Songs do something to me more than inspire feelings. To start with, there’s always one playing in my head, day and night (Anyone else?)

Songs point me towards what’s next in my healing / unfolding / unbecoming journey.

I came across Alex Warren through his song Ordinary, and then Bloodline (co-written with Jelly Roll) found me.

There’s something in the lyrics about not being defined by your past, about being able to change the course of your life. I didn’t know anything about him at the time. I just kept listening, dancing, crying as I listened.

It’s a message millions of people need to hear.

Then I saw a video about his performance at the Grammys.

At one point his in-ear stopped working and you can see him trying to adjust it, figuring it out live on TV and watching this clip raises my cortisol just to imagine being in his shoes!

He thought his career was over, and still, he kept going. That’s the turning point, where you learn to manage your inner state so it doesn’t interfere with your present moment.

His humanity is relatable.

It made me realise that this is what I naturally pay attention to. People who have gone through something difficult and still choose to express themselves, to follow their calling.

A few months ago I interviewed a famous musician after planting the seed that I knew I’d interview him one day… and it ended up happening.

At the end of the interview he told me that the way I asked questions was different from what he usually gets from professional journalists.

That was the most unexpected gift to me. He was shedding some light to a path I never had considered before.

So I’m starting to understand my role in all this. I’m not interested in celebrities in a superficial way. What draws me is something else. Their stories, their turning points, the moments where things could have gone a different way. But they persevered.

I don’t believe they’re just a few lucky ones. And I’m here to understand how they did it, so I can share the message with the rest of us that feel just too ordinary to follow their own dreams.

So here is my intention 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

I’ll go see Alex Warren live when he comes to Manchester, and I’m open to interviewing him, to have a different kind of conversation. The kind that actually connects with people, not just fans.

For the millions of people who feel far from their dreams, especially if they’ve had a difficult past.

I'm here to bring these stories a bit closer to them, in a way that feels human.

So they can see themselves in them.

It might not happen this year, might not even be in Manchester. And that's ok.

When you have a dream, you plant a seed, take aligned action, and trust 👐
